Piecemeal Approaches to API Security Put Organizations in the Crosshairs
Organizations are more dependent on APIs for their core business objectives, and most organizations have experienced at least one API-related attack in the past year, based on the results of a recent study from CyberRisk Alliance Business Intelligence. Based on responses from 250 IT and cybersecurity decision-makers and influencers, Piecemeal Approaches to API Security Put Organizations in the Crosshairs, gives a clear view of the challenges, priorities, and best practices surrounding API security today.
Among the findings:
- Only 56% of respondents believe their organizations have an effective API protection strategy.
- Three-quarters of all respondents reported their organization experienced an API security attack in the past 12 months.
- API security has become more critical for virtually all (94%) organizations with APIs in the past two years.
- Across the board, various inadequacies and incomplete solutions are among respondents’ top concerns with their current API protection solutions. These deficiencies include an incomplete view of the API attack surface (reported by 36% of respondents), an excess of false positives about API attacks (33%), and an inability to detect and block API attacks in real time (33%).
